How can I get an appointment at the Surgery?
You can get a GP appointment in the following ways:
Walk In Clinic
We run walk in clinics Monday to Friday starting at 8.30am and 2.30pm (Surgery doors open at 8am and 2pm respectively). These operate on a first come, first served basis, although clinicians may prioritise children and urgent cases where clinically appropriate. You will be added to the list and asked to sit and wait to be called by the clinician. You can request to see a particular doctor and if they have availability at that point the receptionist will add you to their specific list. You also have the option of being added to the list of the clinician with the shortest wait time if that is your preference.
Book an appointment online
Use your online account 24/7 to book an appointment with a doctor at the Surgery. Our online appointments can only be booked by patients via their online account (our receptionists do not have access to these appointments). When booking, you can make your selection from all available appointments with available doctors up to two weeks in advance.
Speak to a receptionist
Speak to a receptionist, either at the reception desk or over the telephone on 01202 710013. They can offer you pre-bookable appointments with a named doctor up to two weeks in advance. They will be unable to book you into a walk in slot over the phone.
Please note, during busy periods our pre-bookable appointments can become fully booked up to two weeks in advance. In this instance you can check for online appointment availability via your online patient accounts or come to one of our Walk In Clinics. Alternatively, you can wait a couple of days and speak to a receptionist again to see if appointments have become available.
All nurse appointments are bookable in advance via reception.
What if I need the Doctor Urgently?
In a life-threatening situation, always dial 999.
You can ring the Surgery number at any time on 01202 710013 to either speak to us or be directed to an alternative service if we are closed.
Can I speak to my doctor on the telephone?
Our GPs can deal with a number of symptoms effectively over the telephone, saving you a trip to the Surgery. These include:
- Diarrhoea & vomiting - Sick (Fit) notes - Urinary Symptoms - Mental health symptoms - Referral queries
- Review of long-term conditions (including diabetes, COPD, CHD) - Pain control (including back pain)
- Eye symptoms & conjunctivitis - Test results
Please contact reception if you would like a telephone appointment.
What if I need to cancel an appointment and can't get through to the surgery on the phone?
If you have registered for online services you can log in at any time up to an hour before an appointment to cancel regardless of whether that appointment was booked online or not. You may find this helpful during busy times at the surgery when it is difficult to get through on the phone.
What if I'm late for an appointment?
Please be aware that if you are 10 minutes or more late for your appointment, your clinician will decide if:
- they will see you as soon as they can;
- they will see you at the end of their clinic; or
- you will need to make another appointment.
Please note: We are working to improve access to appointments for our patients, in particular at evenings and weekends. If you would like to be offered one of these appointments, please ask. These appointments may be at a different site, for example, Poole General Hospital.
